A note for parents, guardians & program hosts
Your child's camp, class, or group may use Flight Crew, a short outdoor team game from Wings & Whistles. Teams head outside with their instructor, listen for real birds, and earn points for the birds they find and learn. It is run and supervised by the instructor from start to finish.
What your child does
Campers join the instructor's private session with a code or QR card, pick a playful bird nickname generated by the app (like "Acorn Lark"), then listen for birds with their team. The app identifies bird sounds and turns each find into team points and a short learning moment. At the end, the group gets a recap and a printable team certificate.
Privacy, by design
- No camper accounts or direct personal info. Campers should not enter a full real name, email, phone number, birthdate, home address, photo, precise location, or account, and no public profile is created.
- Bird sounds are identified on the device. Audio is analyzed in real time on the device. Wings & Whistles never receives, records, stores, or uploads raw audio. Only the matched bird species syncs to the session.
- No GPS or precise location. The instructor picks a state-level region for the local bird list. The app does not request location permission from campers.
- No ads, no chat, no messages. Flight Crew has no advertising, no in-app chat, and never contacts campers.
- Only limited session records are saved. Flight Crew may use app-generated display names, team assignments, bird finds, scores, activity timestamps, session codes, device-scoped or session-scoped identifiers, IP/request metadata, and security logs to run, secure, support, and recap the private session. These records are not used for behavioral advertising, profiling, cross-service tracking, or independent marketing.
- Records are time-limited. Individual participant records and device-scoped identifiers are deleted within 90 days after a session ends. Session events and per-find logs are retained for up to 12 months for recaps and support, unless an organization configures a shorter retention period or requests earlier deletion.
Program host responsibilities
Session hosts should supervise play, use only non-identifying camper labels or the app-generated bird names, and obtain any parent, guardian, school, camp, organization, or program permissions required for their session. Hosts should not ask campers to provide, or enter on a camper's behalf, full names, emails, phone numbers, birthdates, home addresses, photos, precise locations, or other personal information Flight Crew is not designed to collect.
Safety
Flight Crew is played outdoors under instructor supervision. The instructor sets the play area, keeps crews together, and controls when the game starts, pauses, and ends. In-app prompts remind campers to keep their eyes up and stay with their crew while listening.
